The Ragamuffin tradition in New York City was an early 20th-century custom where children dressed as beggars or in mismatched attire and asked for treats or money on Thanksgiving Day. This tradition gradually declined in popularity in the 1930s as societal views on child begging and the practice of dressing in ragged clothes changed. He participated in 1876 in the Battle of Little Big Horn that defeated the U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment under Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer.

Eugène Atget (1857-1927) was a French flâneur and a pioneer of documentary photography, noted for his determination to document all of the architecture and street scenes of Paris before their disappearance to modernization.

In Memoriam: 2022

As we tried to restore our lives in a new world adjusted for Covid, we did so against a tide of colossal losses. We lost so many people we loved this year — from loved ones in our family to personalities, entertainers, athletes, and political figures we never met that inspired us.

The world will never see the talents of these individuals again, but we will continue to make memories with them as we pass on their stories and the legacies that they left behind to new generations.
